In 1892, father and son, Sigmund and Milton Florsheim began manufacturing shoes from a small downtown Chicago factory. Their vision was to provide their customers with a product offering better quality, comfort and style than any of their competitors. Shoes with the name Florsheim quickly became sought after by men in cities throughout the country. To keep up with the demand, the company introduced a vast distribution network and the innovative concept of mass producing high-quality footwear.
As America changed, so did Florsheim. The company supplied shoes to American soldiers fighting in both World Wars. Florsheim made it through the tough economic era of the ‘30’s, and as the years passed by, the brand flourished and grew. By the 1950’s, a man could find the Florsheim shoe label displayed in shop windows across America, from the smallest towns to the largest cities. Over the years, numerous U. S. presidents, senators, mayors, entertainers and athletes have proudly worn Florsheim footwear. The brand soon became known to many as “America’s shoes.”
As fashions changed, so did Florsheim.
